Campaign Committee for Human Rights

To protect human rights defenders, encourage the public to participate more fully in the human rights movement, and advocate for more effective human rights policies with the government. The Campaign Committee for Human Rights will focus on three main activities: the protection of human rights defenders throughout the country; monitoring of Thai government policies to ensure that they meet international human rights standards; and human rights awareness campaigns targeting the general public.
Center for International Private Enterprise

To build awareness among the Thai business community of collective action approaches to anti-corruption and to strengthen the voice of the business community in policymaking processes. The Institute of Directors will work with CIPE to draft proposals for the national anti-corruption initiative based on input from the Thai business community to ensure that the broader business community has a voice in the design of the national program.
Cross Cultural Foundation

To support and strengthen a network of lawyers involved in the protection of human rights, particularly the rights of marginalized populations in Thailand, including migrant workers, indigenous communities, and stateless people. The organization will focus on three main areas: networking and capacity building; public information campaigns and legal advocacy; and strategic litigation.
Environmental Litigation and Advocacy for the Wants

To promote the Thai public’s awareness of fundamental environmental issues. Environmental Litigation and Advocacy for the Wants’ project will include: strategic litigation on specific cases, which could have far-reaching implications for environmental law in Thailand; the creation of an information clearinghouse tracking environmental issues, which will be used to support litigation and public awareness campaigns; and development of an organizational website focusing on environmental litigation.
Foundation for Community Educational Media

To provide the Thai public with a credible and respected source of independent news reporting and editorial commentary and to foster a higher level of public participation and community involvement in Thai political affairs. The Foundation for Community Educational Media will publish its online newspaper, Prachatai.com, a Thai- and English-language daily newspaper and maintain community web boards that cover politics, energy, the environment and natural resources, employment and labor issues, health, and the ongoing violence in southern Thailand.
National Democratic Institute for International Affairs
$500,000
To increase the ability of citizens and elected representatives to identify and address local issues of concern. NDI and local partners will sponsor a series of constituency dialogues in the four regions of Thailand to provide a venue for citizens to voice their concerns as well as better understand the roles and responsibilities of elected representatives.
Thai Volunteer Service
$50,000
To support the development of a new generation of human rights lawyers in Thailand. The Thai Volunteer Service will coordinate a program to place young lawyers as volunteers with civil society organizations throughout Thailand in an effort to introduce them to human rights issues and encourage them to become active participants in the country’s human rights movement.
