The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) condemns the attack on former President Donald Trump and mourns the loss of life of a person participating in the democratic process by attending a campaign rally.
“Political violence has no place in democracy,” says NED President and CEO Damon Wilson. “Candidates need to be able to compete free of danger. Citizens have responsibilities in a democracy to uphold the best of our ideals and to help ensure our elections are not marred by violence. At NED, we see rising political violence around the world has damaged elections and weakened democracies. Any political violence is an attack on our free and fair elections.”
This moment compels a recommitment to civility and respect in politics.
